Exculpation

To exculpate is to acquit; to pronounce not guilty of criminal charges. Exculpation is therefore the act of freeing from guilt or blame; exoneration.

    I thought that was absolution.

    It seems to be absolution from blame rather than from the act itself. - Freed from any question of guilt; "x is absolved from all blame"
