Swart

Swart is an obsolete or poetic word meaning dark-skinned; naturally having skin of a dark colour; of a dark hue; moderately black; swarthy; tawny; gloomy; malignant.

Her bed it was the brown heath turf,
And her house was put of doors.
Her apples were swart blackberries...

John Keats - "Meg Merrilies"

  1. The Swedish word for black is 'svart' (and German 'schwarz')
