Obedentiary

Obedentiary is a monastic rank or office below that of superior. For example, in the Sansom novel I have just read there are six obedentiaries below the prior.

  1. I am also reading C.J.Sansom book. Merriam-Webster dictionary states no such word, suggests incorrect spelling. Wikipedia also states the same but suggests an extra "I" Obedientiaries, giving the same meaning. Could the auther be wrong? It would be interesting to know the correct spelling
