Kitty

First recorded in the 19th century, the word kitty means a pool, fund or reserve of money, often collected from a number of persons or sources and designated for a particular purpose specified by the contributors, especially in a card game.  It probably has its origins in the word kit - a wooden tub or container which in turn comes from the Middle Dutch 'kitte' meaning a jug or tankard..
