Discalceate

When you get home from work or from doing the shopping do you discalceate?  I do.  It means to remove one's shoes.
You can almost hear the sigh of relief as she discalceates.

To be discalced (used of certain religious orders) means to go barefoot or wearing only sandals.

  1. I never heard the word before but in Sweden we usually discalceate every time we get home - or step inside someone else's home.

    1. That's interesting. I have one friend who asks me to take my shoe s off when going in her house but it's not a normal practice here.

    2. In Sweden it would be considered rude to walk further into someone's home than the hall with the outdoors shoes still on, without asking permission.

  2. I always discalceate when I'm home, but I'd never wear such uncomfortably high heels in the first place!
