"That's a great deal to make one word mean," Alice said in a thoughtful tone. "When I make a word do a lot of work like that," said Humpty Dumpty, "I always pay it extra."

Dilapidator

Sadly I am almost a dilapidator.  A dilapidator was a person who neglected an ancient building and allowed it to deteriorate.  The only difference in my case is that the building is not ancient – it is just beginning to look it because of all the outstanding jobs that are required.

  1. Sorry to hear that. Hopefully if you stay well enough then you and Rich can get on with some decorating.

  2. I knew the adjective 'dilapidated', but I've never heard the noun used in a sentence. Well, I'm one too, due mostly to my inability to feel comfortable on a ladder. My youngest son's friend is supposed to put me in touch with another friend to give me an estimate for work to be done on my shed. best wishes to us both! stay well!

  3. I've seen the word dilapidate but did not know it could be used in an "active" sense.
