"That's a great deal to make one word mean," Alice said in a thoughtful tone. "When I make a word do a lot of work like that," said Humpty Dumpty, "I always pay it extra."

Aerumnous

Aerumnous is an adjective and meant full of trouble, troublesome.  Sadly it has fallen out of use but surely it is just begging to be re-introduced to describe the behavious of the Department of Work and Pensions.  It sounds exactly the sort of word you would want to use when when you wanted to be officious about someone's irksome behaviour.

  1. It sounds like a great word to describe the government, or my boys and their friends when they want to get into mischief! Maybe i'll start the new year by throwing this one at them.

  2. The UK seems to have the same kind of opinion for their government as do many of us Americans!
