"That's a great deal to make one word mean," Alice said in a thoughtful tone. "When I make a word do a lot of work like that," said Humpty Dumpty, "I always pay it extra."

Analepsis

Analepsis (plural analepses) or flashback is a form of anachrony by which some of the events of a story are related at a point in the narrative after later story-events; an interjected scene that takes the narrative back in time from the current point.    'The Time Traveller's Wife' is full of analepses!

  1. Now there's a word I should try to rememember as I seem to be reading a lot of such books lately. (Not with characters doing the time-travelling. But the reader has to!)
